Circulaltion Policies

Library Cards will be issued at six (6) years of age. If under age 14, a parent's signature is required.

Information requested for Library Card:
Name, address, phone number, place of employment, work phone number, optional e-mail address and name, address and phone number of contact person.  Applicants need to be an Arkansas resident and will be asked to provide a driver's license or some other form of identification. 

Library Card:
First Card is free

Lost cards are replaced for $3.

Patron must present library card to check out library materials.

Overdue Fines: 
10 cents per day per item 

Check Out Policy:
New Library Card - May only take three (3) items first time.
Non-Fiction - 3 books per subject, no limit on subjects.                                                         Fiction - Amount you can read in two weeks. 
VHS & DVD - 4 items combined total.

If a patron has an outstanding fine of $5.00 or more, the patron will not be permitted to check out additional library items until the fine is paid in full.

Patrons may have a maximum of 25 items checked out.


Inclement Weather Policy

During weather advisories, library staff will monitor weather conditions and will close the library if weather becomes too severe.

The library will close when Calico Rock Public Schools close due to bad weather.

The library will close if ordered to by the City of Calico Rock or by Izard County.

Library staff will post closings on the Calico Rock Library Facebook page when possible.

Library staff will post a notice on the library doors when possible.

Library staff will record a notice on the library answering service when possible.

This is to ensure the safety of our patrons and staff. 

Donations Policy

Gifts, Memorials & Donations

  • Gifts of books and memorials are greatly appreciated, with the donor understanding the library is not limited as to its use.

  • Donating used books is also available, although you may find there are times during the year when these donations are not being accepted.

We will accept:

  • Hardcover books and paperback books in good condition. We cannot use damaged books, including those with broken bindings, missing pages, soiled, musty, moldy, have excessive writing, fire or rodent damage or outdated materials.

  • Commercially published media including movies, audiobooks and music. We cannot accept vinyl record albums.

We will NOT accept:

  • Boxes of items that have been moved directly from long term storage to the library.

  • Large quantity of books that are not in boxes or containers.

  • Damaged books or materials with broken bindings, missing pages, soiled, musty, moldy, fire, smoke, rodent or water damaged or with excessive writing.

  • Outdated materials.

  • Toys, games and puzzles.

  • Encyclopedia, in parts or sets.

  • Non-commercially produced media.

  • Computer programs.

  • Text books.

  • Pocket sized paperback romance, fiction or non-fiction books that are more than 5 years old.

Where to bring donations:

  • Please bring donations to one of the three branch libraries in Izard County during their regular library hours.

  • We may not be able to accept excessively large donations such as a “truck load.” Once our inventory needs have been met, we may decline to accept all donations for a set period of time.

  • Do not leave donations outside or place them in our book return. Donate only when the library is open.
